a painter, driven by pity, takes a girl from the slums where he lives and has her educated in boarding school. some time later the two spend a holiday in his uncle's villa and become lovers. the girl becomes pregnant, the man would like to marry her despite the opposition of his family and the girl, for not being a burden to him, stands aside, runs away and makes herself be dead. the man, desperate, a volunteer for the war and during an action is wounded. admitted to the hospital, after a difficult operation, regaining his senses, he has the joy of seeing the beloved woman and his little son next to him.
