joanna eberhart is the most powerful executive on american television until a husband discharged live by his wife during a ruthless reality show makes a massacre. to prevent the network from collapsing, the board of directors dismisses joanna, who sooner or later finds herself unemployed and on the verge of a nervous breakdown. she then moved with her husband and children to stepford, connecticut, in a strange community inhabited by very blonde wives who seemed to have emerged from the most cloying advertising campaign.
