alberto gherardi enlisted in the foreign legion for a disappointment in love: he thinks that his woman, irene, betrays him. having joined an easy girl, cherie, also desired by sergeant schwartz, alberto remains mutilated in a battle. cherie abandons him, but irene, who has always loved him, joins him and stays close to him.
