we the living (1942)

in the russia of the first years of the revolution a family of bourgeois condition does not adapt to the new regime. one day one of her daughters, kira, meets a young aristocrat, leo, and, having identified his qualities well, he falls in love knowing that the young man is being watched by the soviet secret police for suspected subversive activities, so that one day she she is arrested for complicity. subjected to a pressing interrogation by the people's commissioner, among other things not insensitive to her beauty, she is then released for insufficient tests. the two youngsters live their love story, but one day leo reveals a poor health that prevents him from escaping to a less oppressive country, and since he is out of money the girl sacrifices herself, without the young man's knowledge, becoming the lover of commissioner to be able to send the beloved man to take care of himself in the sanatorium.
