lettere al sottotenente (1943)

a rather insignificant girl weaves a romantic correspondence with a lieutenant at the front. he returns the feeling of affection and asks her to send him a photograph, but the one that comes to the young man is nothing more than a photo of a much prettier friend than the girl. one day the young officer gets a license and goes to meet the girl who, once again, desperate, gets replaced by her friend. the two like each other, they love each other and when the soldier dies in a war action, the substitute cannot give the name to the child that is about to be born.
