in turin an elderly noblewoman reduced to poverty is about to be evicted from her luxurious palace due to non-payment, but the marquis who takes over all his possessions allows her to remain settled in the dormer window. the elderly lady takes to heart the sentimental conflicts of the young daughter of the marquis, hostile to her marriage with a wealthy engineer and it is in this man that she finds her own nephew, son of her deceased brother without having the possibility to recognize him. the proof is in a casket which she preserves religiously, containing a correspondence dating back to her youth and to her relations with the famous diplomat constantine nigro, and it is in one of these letters that the origin of the young man's birth is hidden. thanks to all this, the noblewoman is back in possession of her properties and this time manages to make the two young people realize their dream of love.
