giusi, stepdaughter of gisella, a widow who owns a mill, loves mario, the half-brother. a shady individual, gino, helped by an old woman and taking advantage of the absence of mario, reported missing during his military service, tries to force the girl to his wishes. he will not succeed and mario's return will make things right.
