the two branches of a sicilian family contend, with no holds barred, the legacy of a deceased uncle. cavalier favazza, who considers himself a legitimate heir, spends all his savings and makes a lot of debts to give the extinct a solemn funeral ceremony. but the man then has the unpleasant surprise, when the will is opened, even if he is named universal heir, to find numerous legacies that cover almost all the amount of inheritance inherited. the discovery of a subsequent will leaves things in place and with more justice; but unfortunately the bankruptcy of the bank where the money is deposited leads the knight to the blackest desperation. an unexpected turning point concludes the tragicomic story: the three daughters of the knight will marry the wealthy young people of the other family.
