l'abito nero da sposa (1945)

in renaissance rome, the captain of fortune strozzi killed the banker chigi who refused him the hand of his daughter berta, girlfriend of giuliano demedici, brother of cardinal giovanni. instead the young giuliano is accused of the crime and is arrested and locked up in prison awaiting trial. meanwhile, the real murderer shamelessly confesses his crime to cardinal giovanni, who cannot violate the confessional secret by remaining powerless before the judges who condemn his brother to the gallows. but just before the execution the cardinal, with a stratagem, puts in condition the strozzi to confess the crime in the presence of hidden witnesses.
