ju dou (1990)

china, 1920s. ju dou, a beautiful and young peasant woman, is bought in marriage by elder jin-shan (wei), the owner of a dry cleaner's, who hopes, although half-powerless, to have an heir from her. abused by the despotic consort, she fell in love, corresponded, with the young nephew who worked as an apprentice for the uncle. a child is born, but the old man remains paralyzed and the two lovers, who have to look after him, decide to eliminate him. growing up, the dumb child turns into a ruthless "angel of death".
