every sunday, grandmother franca gathers her close relatives for lunch, thus deceiving herself that she can keep the family of three daughters and their families together. the oldest, barbara, is married to maurizio; she is depressed because she can't have children, while he is a good-natured man. the second child is sofia, married to nicola, a leftist journalist who does not accept compromises even having to feed four children. and then sofia sticks to the bottle. the third daughter, susanna, is married to massimo, a successful lawyer and whoremonger. she is a perfect middle-class, a little cold and with a difficult relationship with her seventeen year old daughter.
