johnny, a student of english literature, returns to alba as a deserter after 8 september. anxious to fight nazism, he joins the first group of partisans he meets. when his line-up slips under the german attack, he goes to look for the azzurri. during the harsh winter of 1944, tormented by cold and hunger, johnny finally found the meaning of his being a partisan.
