mario, a sailor who passionately loves the sea, badly bearing with being on the ground, manages to embark ignoring that his girlfriend is expecting a child. a good person, panizza, removes the girl from trouble and gossip from the gossiping people, marrying her even though she knows she doesn't love her. when, after several months, mario returns and learns what happened in his absence, he is persuaded by his father to leave again even though love still holds the two young people together.
