sunday, january 30, 1972 in derry, northern ireland, ten thousand people marched against the special powers act, the arrest without trial introduced by the protestant government in an attempt to suppress catholic independence, when the tension skyrocketed. the armed militants of the ira broke away from the procession, shouting at the provocation. the army, in a war attitude, loaded the helpless crowd with the armored vehicles and fired at eye level; twenty-seven bodies remained on the asphalt, pierced by the bullets of the british parers.
