a dissolute baron and womanizer kills a wealthy priest, and throws his body into a well, while he is negotiating the sale of his palace. the stolen money allows the baron to continue in his life of revelry, luxury and wickedness, but the remorse of the crime committed digs into his soul to lead him to a form of neurosis and, therefore inexorably, to madness.
