e non dirsi addio (1948)

in castel sant'elia, in northern lazio, in november 1943, three soldiers captained: a frenchman, an englishman and an american escaped from a prison camp. they are cordially welcomed by the parish priest who, while awaiting the allied troops, provides them with a safe haven. one night three german paratroopers are captured and disarmed by the three allied soldiers who lock them up in their shelter. the six soldiers end up fraternizing, forgetting the ethnic differences and two sisters of the village get engaged respectively with one of the germans and with the american. but the ending will be decidedly tragic.
