two sisters live in a small mountain village: the eldest loves, in return, a good young man who emigrated to canada to make a fortune and is married to him by proxy waiting to join him; the younger is seduced by a frivolous young man, the nephew of a noblewoman, from whom a child awaits. the girl dies, the elder sister extends care of the child after being, innocently, in prison. many years after the return of the enriched man from canada, who believed the child to be the son of guilt and not of his younger sister, the truth finally comes out and love is reborn between the two.
